Xiaomi launches Mi Mix Alpha with 108MP camera, wrap display and 12GB RAM

Xiaomi has just launched a new smartphone, Mi Mix Alpha with a mind-blowing 108MP camera set up and wrap display.

The phone is the latest addition to Xiaomi Mix lineup and it is the world’s first smartphone to be equipped with a 108MP camera. The Mi Mix Alpha uses durable protective layer which optimises the screen stack structure.

The device is said to be retailed for  $2,800/€2,500 (N1,008,000 with $1/N360) which is way more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the yet-unreleased Huawei Mate X.

The Mi Mix Alpha is powered by Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, 12 GB RAM and 512 GB internal storage. The device is light up with a 4,050mAh nano silicone cathode power cell with 40W wired fast-charging.

Another fascinating features of the device is the display that goes all around the phone. Xiaomi says this design allows it to achieve a screen to body ratio of 180%. It’s higher than even the Mate X foldable phone, although you can’t unwrap the Alpha and get one giant continuous panel.Xiaomi launches Mi Mix Alpha with 108MP camera, wrap display and 12GB RAM

The panel has 2.15 mm thick bezels on top and bottom and a camera strip on the back, with the lenses protected by a sapphire glass. The edges are pressure-sensitive and will provide notifications. There is no speaker or any other holes – the proximity sensor is ultrasonic, audio is available thanks to “Display Acoustic Technology” and there is advanced palm rejection technology.

The phone has minimal bezels on the top and bottom, and ditches the physical side buttons, instead it relies on display acoustic technology replacing the traditional earpiece receiver and proximity sensor while the device’s sides are pressure-sensitive and leverage a linear motor to simulate the touch of real buttons.

It comes with a 108MP camera on the back, as well as a 20MP and a 12MP one. Because you can simply turn the phone and use the camera on its back, the phone lacks a front-facing camera.

Xiaomi said it uses AI and special sensors to disable unwanted touches on the sides of the device.
