One of the leading Chinese smartphone makers, Realme has announced that they are currently working on a new smartphone that is coming with a 64-megapixel camera sensor.

Realme set to launch a new phone with 64-megapixel AI quad rear camera

This information was revealed by the company CEO Madhav Sheth via a tweet on twitter showcasing some of the features of this mystery phone. Sheth confirms that Realme is actively working on a smartphone with a quadruple rear camera, equipped with a 64 MegaPixel GW1 primary sensor with a size of 1 / 1.72 “, 1.6 micron pixels ( probably considering the Pixel Binning mode ) able to make excellent shots even in low light conditions.

Alongside this tweet, Sheth revealed that the phone will be launched in India first before arriving in other countries. Well, Sheth didn’t reveal the name or the specification of the phone but instead share a photo taken with the unnamed device. In the image, it is possible to notice the watermark that highlights the presence of 4 rear cameras.

In addition, the photo was taken in apparently optimal conditions that do not reveal any critical issues. All in all, it seems that the image has a high amount of detail, especially with regard to the foliage of the trees and the windows of the buildings, all elements that – net of the fact that the image is resized and compressed – appear however well defined and distinct.

Therefore, the ability to capture details does not seem to be missing, although it will be necessary to wait for a completely different kind of shots to judge the photographic quality of the next Realme smartphone. In any case, the company seems ready to compete in this field with a proposal that will be launched globally – starting with India – by the end of the year. There is no more precise information on the timing, so we will have to wait.

However,  Xiaomi too is working on a phone equipped with 64 MegaPixel based on Samsung’s recent Bright GW1 sensor but who will be announcing it first is what I don’t know.
